Calcareous Nannofossils in Holocene Surface Sediments of the Persian Gulf
Authors
Abstract:
The effect of the paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental changes on the structure of the bioticcommunities are stronger and better recorded in the shelf area than in the open sea. The present study isdevoted to impact of climatic events on some species of calcareous nannofossils. For this reason, 17samples of surface sediments of the Persian Gulf were studied. Preservation of calcareous nannofossils insurface sediment samples was good and the dominant species were huxleyi, Helicosphaera carteri Holocene sediments in the study area were deposited in the warm water and the Persian Gulf was ashallow and hyposaline basin in which productivity of calcareous nannofossils was high.Gephyrocapsa oceanica, Emilianiaand Calcidiscus leptoporus. The presence of these taxa indicated the

Study of Metals Concentrations in Surface Sediments of the Persian Gulf Coastal Area (Bushehr Province)
Since heavy metals are considered as one of the major pollutants threatening, the main goal of this study was to bring out the concentrations of Pb, Zn and Mn in the surface sediments off Bushehr in the Persian Gulf. For this purpose, after collection of samples, the concentrations of the three metals in surface sediments were measured through the atomic absorption. The results were compared wi...
full textPolycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Offshore Surface Sediments of the Northern Persian Gulf, Bushehr Province
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are classified as an important category of semi-volatile and persistent organic pollutants. They cause environmental problems due to their toxicity and accumulation in sediments. In this research, offshore sediments of 19 stations in 8 transects of the Persian Gulf in Bushehr province were studied to assess the sources of PAHs. The extraction and clean up...
full textHistory of Laurentide meltwater flow to the Gulf of Mexico during the last deglaciation, as revealed by reworked calcareous nannofossils
The history of meltwater flow from the Laurentide Ice Sheet to the Gulf of Mexico during the last deglaciation, which holds possible implications for the cause of the Younger Dryas cold episode, is not well understood. We propose a new chronology based on using the percentage of reworked calcareous nannofossils in Orca Basin sediments as a proxy for erosion. The period of greatest meltwater flo...

full textEcological Health Assessment of the Surface Sediments of the Coral Reefs of Khark and Kharko Islands (Persian Gulf, Iran)
To assess the ecological risk of the coral reef habitats of Khark and Kharko islands in the Persian Gulf, (Bushehr province), the surface sediment samples were collected from seven stations, in September 2019. The islands have a great ecological value due to the presence of coral reefs. The amounts of potentially toxic elements, sediment texture, total organic matter, total phosphorus and total...
full textRecord bio-events and study the distribution of calcareous nannofossils in Cretaceous-Paleogene sediments, Neo-Tethys Ocean realm
In the present study, the sediments of the Gurpi Formation in the Jafarabad section located in the southeast of Ilam were examined from the point of view of calcareous calcareous nannofossils. The sediments of the upper part of Gurpi Formation with a thickness of about 42 m are composed of limy marl sediments. In this study, 34 species belonging to 22 genera from the group of calcareous nannopl...
